Our founder and President, Laura Colban, has worked
in the energy sector in the U.S. and Norway since
1989, beginning as a staff attorney and working her
way up to General Counsel and VP of Operations. She
has worked for Fortune 500 European energy
companies, including StatoilHydro. She has assisted
in developing pellet mills, renewable energy power
plants and traditional energy projects, such as gas
pipelines and offshore oil fields.
Skanden Energy has assessed dozens of European
biomass boiler, burner and other equipment
manufacturers and is now working with a select
handful of manufacturers who produce a wide array of
systems, from residential to 15 million BTUs for
district heating ("district heating" entails the use
of a single heating system to heat residences,
businesses, government and other facilities in a
particular geographical area, or "district"). Skanden's manufacturers have proven track records of
over twenty years of research, development and
production of biomass equipment. They collaborate
with universities and other top academic
institutions on optimizing energy efficiency and
emissions reduction, and have received funding for
lab equipment and other R&D resources from these
institutions. Their equipment is also tested by
independent labs for efficiency and emissions to
insure compliance with European regulations which
are significantly more stringent than US
regulations.
